I find planning both the fun part as it gets the creative juices flowing and builds excitement, and also the ‘slap in the face’ part, reading a lot of these books makes it sound like you need to be a millionaire to even consider traveling! I don’t plan on staying in four star hotels with all-inclusive food and swim up rooms and all that. This is the beautiful picture the media has painted of ‘travel’.
So, we’ve stuck our dots on the gigantic wall map on the places we want to visit and connected them crudely with a piece of cotton to map out our plan so far. This gives us something to work with when looking at whether a round the world ticket is the best option for us.
Next step is deciding how long to stay in each location and what we are going to do while we are there. We would like to do volunteer work as we travel as its a good way to meet like minded people, learn new skills and depending on the work, get a taste of that country’s culture. Only ridiculous thing is, it costs loads to volunteer! Am I the only person who sees the irony in paying to work for free? We are currently looking into WWOOF where you only have to pay membership fee per country you volunteer in, just have to decide which countries! The world is our oyster!
